Dark. Potent. With a subtle bitter aftertaste you won't soon forget. Chestnut honey is not for everyone — and that's precisely what makes it so special.
Chestnut honey is a monofloral blossom honey, harvested when the sweet chestnut trees around Virovitica are in bloom — June and July. For generations, the same family has worked here with respect for nature — raw harvested, nothing added.
The flavor profile is complex: potent, nutty, earthy — with notes of caramel and a characteristic slight bitterness in the aftertaste. That bitterness clearly distinguishes chestnut honey from forest honey, which derives its depth from honeydew resin. Chestnut is less sweet than almost all other varieties in our assortment — and in Italy, France, and the Balkan countries, it is the absolute favorite among honey connoisseurs.

As Our Grandparents Already Knew
Chestnut honey has been valued for generations in European folk wisdom — traditionally associated with energy, vitality, and healthy circulation. In Italy, France, and the Balkan countries, it is considered one of the most nutritious types of honey. Traditionally used for sore throats and as a soothing remedy for coughs — its powerful composition makes chestnut honey more than just a sweetener in folk wisdom.
Crystallization — What You Need to Know
Chestnut honey crystallizes slowly — due to the specific sugar composition of chestnut nectar, it remains relatively liquid for a long time. When crystallization occurs, the honey develops a thicker, chewy texture and remains dark in color. A proof of purity. Place the jar in a bath of warm water to let it melt gently.
